Andrew Olphin came upon quite the project car back in early 2012, I was happy as can be when he called me to lend a hand with a custom rear deck speaker installation!
The problem we faced was getting upsized 6"x9" into a very small space, that did not have the depth required to fit them in easily. The way to make it work was to pad out the speakers by about 5/8" of an inch, but keep the overall factory look the rear deck already had. Rather than using plastics, we wanted to stick with a wood riser, that was painted black to offset the interior color of the 911. After getting them trimmed out on my new sander, we painted them up and skipped the gloss coat for a matte finish.
This project was a great success and ended up getting me a new friend. Andy and I have been friends ever since then, and we still stay in touch often. His awesome wife, Elicia is also my assistant at Nicely Done Sites!
